Case Management

Who can use case management?

Illness can lead to long absence. The special regulations in the Netherlands involve many different parties in the reintegration process. For example, cancer patients or people who have suffered a serious accident often require case management. But also mental illnesses, such as burnout or depression, require longer periods of regeneration, in which organizational stress and miscommunication with the various parties involved should be avoided.

For employers in the Netherlands, it is challenging to know all the specific regulations that only exist in the Netherlands. Employers in the Netherlands are required to pay for wages and reintegration for at least two years. In case of subsequent (partial) incapacity for work, the employer is responsible for the costs incurred (partly) for another 10 years, depending on the insurance status.

The table below shows the cost to the employer of having a long-term sick worker who is 50% disabled after 2 years of paid wages and does not use his remaining capacity. Depending on the size of the company, these costs will be charged to the employer on a one-to-one basis by the authority UWV.

Type of payment Amount Max. deductible from the employer Months Costs Employer for 10 years Disability
LGU 75% 2250 2250 2 4500
LGU 70% 2100 2100 22 46200
VVU 583.33 583.33 96 56000
120 106700

Plus, 2 years continued salary payment of 3000 EUR per month * 24 = 72.000 EUR.

Plus, costs for Arbo service and reintegration measurements at least 10,000 EUR.

Total costs: 188,700 EUR for a partially disabled average earner.

The employer must set up reservations for these potential costs. These regulations can be particularly challenging for medium-sized companies. It is therefore advisable to hire a case-manager for individual cases or at a strategic level in order to find a quick and satisfactory solution for all parties.

Which offer does Amycor make?

  • Communication and mediation between employee and employer, company doctor and authorities
  • Advising the employer on risks and insurance issues.
  • Reintegration into the job after illness.
  • Alternative: Assistance with change of occupation.

Especially for expats from Germany, who are not familiar with the Dutch health and employment law system, there are major obstacles already at the beginning of a disease. For example, it is not enough to get a sick note from your own family doctor. In the Netherlands, companies often work with a so-called ARBO service to check the actual inability to work through their company doctor and have a reintegration plan drawn up. Coordination between the employee, the employer, and the ARBO service is a classic case management service.

How far does Amycor’s case management go?

However, Amycor’s care does not stop with overcoming illness or resolving acute problems. After a months-long inability to work, it is often not easy to get back into the old job. Therefore, case management also requires us to work intensively with your employer to make it easier for you to return to work. However, if you can not work in your old job due to your illness, we will search for alternatives together with you and also help you with a subsequent career coaching to plan a new career.

The following table shows how important it is for employees to get back to work. The calculation below is based on an average earner with a gross salary of € 3,000 per month, who remains disabled for work after the two years of salary paid by the employer, and does not use his residual earning capacity. The table shows the expected payout amounts from the local authority UWV.

Periode Entitlement in EUR Salary Income in EUR
2 months 2250 0 2250
22 months 2100 0 2100
until retirement 583.33 0 583.33

These financial consequences of (partial) long-term inability to work are shocking for many employees. Amycor helps you to ensure that it does not go that far — with support in the reintegration process and offers for professional reorientation. Please also read our blog post on LinkedIn.
